Несмотря на то, что многие основатели движения сионистов происходили из традиционных сообществ, их внешний вид и стиль жизни не всегда отражали это происхождение. - Берл Кацнельсон, основатель движения «Социалистический сионизм» и председатель ККЛ – ЕНФ в 1942-1944 гг., тоже превознес традицию Шаббат: «Для меня Шаббат – один из столпов иудейской культуры и первое социалистическое достижение рабочего класса в истории общества… Мы должны превратить наш Шаббат и наши праздники в пламя культуры».
