From Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this article explores the centrality of hiking in Israeli culture, including the biblical roots of this national pastime, how it is fostered in the educational system, and descriptions of some of the most popular and unique trails in the country. This article was written after National Geographic included the Israel National Trail in its list of the twenty best hikes in the world. the 580-mile long trail stretches from the northern Galilee to the southernmost city of Eilat, including many gorgeous landscapes and important historical and archaeological sites.
